Renovations

A month or so ago Steve and I decided to invest in our home in a big way: we decided to finish our basement space. Our basement is 3/4 above ground with full-size windows. But, it has very little head space. It is about 75" from floor to ceiling. White trim and light walls will make it seem as big as possible. But, tall people beware!

When finished we will have a third more space in our home, with a 3/4 bath, an extra room (which might become a master bedroom!), an enclosed laundry room, a small sitting area, and two decent sized closets. We'll also have two new sets of stairs - one external and one internal - both leading down from the kitchen on the middle floor and meeting fire code regulation. No more falling down (or fear of falling down) the basement stairs! We're also updating our electric box to accommodate the whole house so blow drying your hair while microwaving a burrito will be possible.

Construction is well underway now. The guys have been working for two weeks and have framed everything out, installed baseboard radiators, and can lights in the ceiling, and are working on updating our plumbing system. Now is the perfect time with all the walls still open. We're especially committed to doing this after having a pipe freeze and burst right before construction started. Corrosion on other pipes was evident. One joint appeared to be held together with tape!

The morning before the crew started we took some "before" pictures. Check them out below! And see all the pictures in this Picassa album: https://picasaweb.google.com/lindsayelittle/3032WLyndaleRenovation?authkey=Gv1sRgCKfYzvCkwKrPXQ&feat=directlink

The hot water heater will have its own room. Steve stands in the laundry room. Jack walks through the bathroom.

The washer and dryer will have their own room.

Old toilet with chic pink shag cover will be replaced by another commode about 4 feet to the left.

Future master bedroom?

Dangerous stairs (are now gone!!)
